Roles
Roles are ways of understanding the self that only take on meaning when other people are involved, as opposed to identities, which are self-determined.
You can determine if an identity is a role by adding “of” or “to” and another person to it. For example, “sister of A” or “dom to B.” However, the boundary between role and identity can be blurry. These classifications are meant to be guidelines, not inflexible definitions.
