Tropes

Tropes are the tools and conventions people use to tell stories.

Tropes can be sequences of events, character archetypes, setups and premises for stories... pretty much any recurring element that appears in stories. Tropes are fictional elements, as opposed to the real-life experiences that inform identities, roles, combinations, and dynamics.

The line between trope and kink can be blurry. I distinguish tropes as the setup (“there was only one bed”) and/or expectation (“cuddling for warmth”) behind the featured things and activities, or kinks (cuddling, vulnerability, foreplay), in a scene.

For concrete elements that appear in the work, see the Kinks page.

For themes and ideas that appear in the work, see the Topics page.
